Greater Harleysville and North Penn Senior Services (GHNPSS) is pleased to celebrate Doug Gifford as the 2024 Pillar of the Community. The event will be held at Indian Valley Country Club on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm
We are thrilled to recognize Doug Gifford as the 2024 Pillar of the Community for his long-standing commitment to making Lower Salford Township a wonderful place to live and work. Through his role as a member of the Lower Salford Township Board of Supervisors, he championed the relationship between Encore Experiences and the Township; ensuring that GHNPSS has a dedicated space to provide active adults with programs and resources well into their later years.
Doug is a true community servant. He first joined the Lower Salford Township Board of Supervisors in 1990 and would remain a committed member until his retirement in 2023. He served twice as the Chairman; first from 1996 to 1998 and again from 2002 through 2022. In addition, Doug was a member of the Lower Salford Township Zoning Hearing Board and a member of the Lower Salford Township Recreation Authority, currently serving as Chairman. His colleagues sing his praises, expressing that, Doug “has truly been (and continues to be) a very integral part of Lower Salford Township and the surrounding community. We here at the Township can honestly say that we are a better place to live, work and play because of his selfless efforts.”
There are many instances of Doug's dedication to preserving and sustaining community resources like Encore, the Harleysville Senior Center. Of particular note is the instrumental work he did to securing funding for Indian Valley Public Library when the school district could no longer fund the library. He was on the Library Board at that time and rallied the municipalities that share the use of this valuable institution. The commitment from the municipalities ensured that Indian Valley Library did not have to cut key community programs and services.
In the early years of raising his family with his wife, Kathleen, and running his law practice, Clemens, Nulty and Gifford, Doug was a member of the Harleysville Jaycees. The Jaycees are a volunteer philanthropic group that is united around the common goal of giving back to the community through volunteerism. They host events, including the Harleysville Country Fair Days, that raise critical funds which are then invested back into our local community.
While Doug is a committed community volunteer, he also ran a successful law practice, Clemens, Nulty and Gifford, for close to 50 years. He officially closed his office in January 2024. He main areas of practice were Domestic Relations, Zoning, Real Estate (Commercial and Residential), Municipal Law, Commercial Litigation, Estates, Personal Injury, Litigation and Corporations. We think it can be said that Doug has led a very full life and is well-deserving of his retirement with his family including Kathleen and their children, Robert and Katie.
By supporting the Pillar of the Community Event, you will pay tribute to Doug Gifford and help GHNPSS provide vital services to Seniors at our two locations: Encore Experiences in Harleysville and The PEAK Center in Lansdale. GHNPSS delivers outstanding programs and critical services that help older adults build meaningful connections, have access to nutritious meals, engage in intellectually stimulating programs, and participate in wellness classes so they can thrive.
Please consider a sponsorship, an advertisement, or attending the Pillar event to honor of Doug Gifford for his years of community leadership and dedicated community service. Doug, local Seniors, and your organization will all benefit from your support. We hope to see you on May 29 as we celebrate Doug and recognize his incredible career, community service, and leadership. If you have any questions, please contact Liz Beil at ebeil@ghnpss.org or 215-256-6900 ext. 201.
